Today, Monday (January 3, 2022 AD), the Bena Association for Orphan Care in the Eastern Province and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals held a press conference at the university’s headquarters in Dhahran to review the latest preparations and arrangements for organizing the fifth scientific camp for the Kingdom’s orphans, which will be launched under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Ahmed bin Fahd bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Emir of the Eastern Province, next Saturday (January 8, 2022 AD) and organized by the Bena Association for Orphan Care in the Eastern Province in partnership with King University.Fahd Petroleum and Minerals, with the participation of 120 orphans, distinguished male and female students in the secondary stage, representing 28 orphan care associations from all over the Kingdom.

The conference, which was held at the university headquarters, was attended by the Director General of the Benaa Society for Orphan Care, Mr. Abdullah bin Rashid Al-Khalidi, the Deputy Dean of Student Affairs at the university, Dr. Khalid bin Ali Al-Anazi, and a number of journalists from news agencies and newspapers, in addition to a group of officials involved in organizing the camp.

The conference reviewed the camp’s objectives, its features, the target groups, the scientific programs that were chosen, and the personal skills that male and female students will acquire, in addition to the plans and preparations that have been made to make the camp a success. Professor Al-Khalidi and Dr. Al-Anzi answered the journalists’ questions and inquiries.

Professor Al-Khalidi, during a speech he delivered at the beginning of the conference, thanked His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province, and His Royal Highness Prince Ahmed bin Fahd bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the camp’s sponsor, for their continued support for the camp since its first launch in 2018. He also thanked the members of the association’s board of directors, led by His Royal Highness Prince Turki bin Muhammad bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz, Minister of State, Member of the Council of Ministers, Chairman of the Board of Directors, forTheir unlimited support for the association’s initiatives and programs, which contribute to serving orphans and their families and empowering them in society.

He also thanked the university for its partnership in organizing the camp for the fifth year in a row, and for employing all its expertise to support orphans during the camp period and providing the opportunity for university faculty members to train children on the knowledge and skills targeted by the scientific camp.

He talked about the association’s vision and goals, which include contributing to improving the lives of the orphan and his family and empowering him in society, creating effective and influential models of orphans in society. He also talked about the achievements and awards that the association has reaped since its founding.

Al-Khalidi explained that the association is keen to measure students’ inclinations before the start of the camp, and it is provided by an accredited academic body with the aim of helping them choose their university majors and providing the opportunity for every student, male or female, to have a counseling session with an academic specialist to explain the results of the measure.

Al-Khalidi touched on the goals of the camp and the specific programs that will be presented to students during the camp, which include the Internet of Things, renewable energy, data science, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence, which were carefully selected in precise scientific fields that are in line with the Kingdom’s vision for 2030.

Al-Khalidi said that the camp achieved great success in the distance education experience, as it was held for the second year in a row due to the Corona pandemic, which was a major challenge that we overcame, praise be to God, in the fourth edition last year. We decided to hold it remotely for this year in the fifth edition, as a contract was made with one of the best electronic educational platforms, and laptop computers were given to each male and female student among the participants and sent to each participant in the area in which he lives, stressing that the association is seeking the assistance of a specialized body to measure the impact.We noticed the camp's positive impact on students' behavior.

He stated that tests and personal interviews were conducted for the students to know the students’ inclinations and determine the best path for each student, as the camp this year is distinguished by each student choosing a specific path within the camp’s scientific paths.

A number of students who participated in all four editions of the camp and excelled in them are participating in the camp this year. They were contracted to be assistant supervisors and assume supervisory tasks during the camp period. They were qualified and trained through a specialized training program.

Dr. Khaled Al-Anazi, Deputy Dean of Student Affairs, explained that the university is keen on the success of the camp and is happy to participate in organizing it for the fourth time in a row, which provides qualitative programs for male and female students and contributes to expanding their awareness and refining their talents in sciences that are important and will make them creative, God willing.

He added that one of the university's roles is to serve the community and participating in organizing the camp is one of the practical expressions of exercising this role.

He said that the university organized workshops to choose programs, tracks, content, and prepare for the program, and praise be to God, there is keenness and dedication from the professors participating in the camp to make the camp a success and to ensure that students make the most of it.
