Under the generous patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province, the Benaa Association for Orphan Care in the Eastern Province, in strategic partnership with King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, on Saturday (January 4, 2020), launched the third scientific camp for orphans, which will last for (8) days, and with the participation of (150) distinguished male and female orphans in the secondary stage from orphan care associations in the Kingdom, whoThey came from different regions of the Kingdom to participate in the camp.The camp aims to expand the awareness of participants in the modern fields of science and technology by joining 7 scientific tracks and refining their personal skills, in a way that serves the Kingdom’s directions and Vision 2030 in investing in the education and training of the nation’s people and preparing distinguished leaders who will contribute effectively to the development of the Kingdom in the future. Member of the Shura Council and Director General of the Benaa Association for Orphan Care in the Eastern Province, Abdullah Al-Khalidi, thanked His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Emir of the Eastern Province, for his generous approval to sponsor the camp, which aims to prepare students in precise and rare scientific fields in line with the nation’s ambitious vision 2030.Al-Khalidi thanked King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, the strategic partner in preparing and implementing the camp, for the great and unlimited support that was the reason, after God’s grace, for the success of the camp last year, as well as its continued support for organizing the camp this year and employing all its expertise to support orphans during the camp period and contribute to achieving the goals that we all aspire to and provide the opportunity for university faculty members to provide and train children on the knowledge and skills that the scientific camp targets. Al-Khalidi added: The third science camp comes after the success of its first and second editions with the participation of (120) children from orphan associations in the Kingdom, during which the children achieved many achievements and worked on projects for each of the camp’s tracks, which included (space and aviation sciences, artificial intelligence, innovation, robots, nanotechnology, scientific experiments, entrepreneurship, Toastmasters, sports skills) in addition to acquiring a number of skills in communication, dialogue, decision-making, problem solving, leadership, and team work skills.There was a tangible positive impact on the participants in the last camp, as it included innovative scientific paths that took into account the scientific aspects of the participants as well as individual differences, choosing the appropriate path for each participant, and working to provide them with twenty-first century skills and opening horizons for them to keep pace with promising specializations at the global and national levels and to be active partners in achieving the Kingdom’s 2030 vision.He stated that the association is also organizing the first scientific camp for girls, in conjunction with the scientific camp for students, which is held at Al-Fawzan Academy at the university and in which (50) girls participate with the same methodology as the scientific camp for students. It aims to build the capabilities of distinguished girls in keeping with the Kingdom’s 2030 vision, which is concerned with educating women, investing their energies, developing their talents, and enabling them to obtain appropriate opportunities to build their future and contribute to the development of society and the economy. Al-Khalidi also extended his thanks to Boeing, the main partner and supporter of the camp, and thanked all the supporters, sponsors and partners whose generous support was a credit to God for the continued establishment of this qualitative and national camp for this group that is dear to us all.For his part, the Dean of Student Affairs, Chairman of the Camp Organizing Committee at the University, said that the University’s hosting of the camp, in cooperation with the Benaa Association for Orphan Care in the Eastern Province, is one of the forms of community outreach implemented by the University and enhances its role in community service, a function that is no less important than the functions of education and scientific research.He added that the university realized - from an early age - its role in the social responsibility of universities, and was keen to monitor the needs of society in its institutions and sectors and respond to them beyond providing qualified graduates or publishing scientific studies.He explained that the university used its capabilities to make the camp a success and help it achieve its goals, which are in the interest of orphans and their development.He said that the university's role includes designing programs in several scientific tracks by professors specialized in these tracks. He said that these programs include robotics, artificial intelligence, aviation and space, nanotechnology, renewable energy, innovation and manufacturing, and scientific experiments in chemistry and physics.He explained that this scientific content, which was carefully prepared, provided students with scientific knowledge and concepts about these modern fields in addition to practical application by taking advantage of the university’s laboratories equipped with the latest equipment, which increases their experience in the university experience.The university also organizes visits to the Dhahran Valley and the Fab Lab in the valley to learn about its facilities, departments and role.The university also provides logistical services, meals, movement and transportation, organizes external visits to the Ithra Center, provides stadiums, sports facilities, housing, and arrangements for hosting the closing ceremony.
